  • "Beautiful cottage, well maintained, comfortable & spotlessly clean."

Situated in a quiet village just perfect for a relaxing stay. A lovely holiday home for us to return to after great days out to Longleat , cheddar caves , Castle Cary & even the seaside ( Burnham on Sea) But also near enough to Frome Glastonbury etc if you don't want to travel too far. The owners are friendly, & helpful but unobtrusive. Kitchen very well equipped which is always a plus. Private garden area. Comfy beds. Quality linen & towels. Looking forward to returning.

  • "Meadhaven is a fantastic cottage in a great part of the country."

It was the perfect base for our family and a short drive from Longleat Safari Park, Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole which were all great days out. The local Sainsbury's is 10 minutes up the road so everything is nearby whilst still feeling like you're tucked away in a quiet village which was great to come back to after a day out. Anne and Will were fantastic hosts. They made us feel very welcome and provided a very well equipped and clean cottage for our stay. Will definitely be booking again.

  • "We had such a wonderful stay here at Meadhaven."

From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the lovely owner, Anne. She showed us into the property and allowed us to get promptly settled. The property itself it absolutely immaculate. Everything was so clean and welcoming, Anne kindly left us some local fresh bread, milk and little snacks. The cottage was furnished with everything you need, from coffee to an ironing board. What I liked the most was how effective the heating and hot water was. If heated up very quickly and provided me with lovely hot water for my bath. The bed was so so comfortable and really eased my back pain on this trip. I have to stay I’m quite a fussy and anxious person so I don’t often feel relaxed at a property straight away or usually find one or two things I’m not happy with but not here, it was perfect! We have already decided to re book and return to this wonderful property. Thank you for having us!

The property

Bruton: 5 miles; Frome: 5 miles; Meadhaven is a beautiful, detached stone barn resting in an idyllic rural setting in the heart of the captivating Somerset countryside, a peaceful retreat sitting just five miles from the towns of Bruton and Frome.

Meadhaven, the original part of which dates back to the 1700s, has been thoughtfully renovated (in 2022) to create an immaculately-presented holiday cottage, equipped with all you need for a relaxed and comfortable holiday, and the perfect base from which to explore this beautiful area of the West Country.

As you enter Meadhaven, you’ll find a spacious kitchen/diner with large windows, creating a bright and sunny space to cook and share meals together - the kitchen should have everything you need to produce delicious food for your holiday party.

You can relax in the warm and welcoming living room, which includes a smart TV - or, on warmer days, the private gravel courtyard is the perfect place to dine alfresco.

Upstairs, Meadhaven has two beautiful bedrooms – one inviting and comfortable double room with a king size bed, and a delightful twin room - along with a new bathroom offering a bath, walk-in shower, sink and basin.

Meadhaven sits in a quiet part of the village of Wanstrow, which boasts a country pub (that serves food), a playing field and playground for any children in your party, as well as many options for countryside walks and woodland adventures.

A car is a must-have to make the most of your stay and enable you to explore all the area has to offer - away from the village, you are spoilt for choice for places to discover and explore.

Closest, we have Bruton, five miles south, which is home to the Hauser & Wirth Gallery with its beautiful Piet Oudolf-designed gardens, as well as an excellent farm shop and the Roth Bar & Grill, or spend the day exploring the extraordinary gardens at The Newt - its Garden Café is a magical place for lunch.

For a delicious meal, you’ll find At The Chapel and the Old Pharmacy restaurants to be lively spots in the heart of Bruton High Street, and if you fancy a real treat, then the Michelin starred Osip is perfect - if you want to head there for dinner, you’ll need to book well in advance.

Frome, five miles northeast, is a larger town with supermarkets and all the essential stores, but is also packed full of independent shops, bars and restaurants, with the paved, ancient thoroughfares of Cheap Street and Catherine Hill ideal for fans of arty gifts and homewares.

Every Saturday and Wednesday is market day in Frome, and the first Sunday of the month sees the whole town centre taken over by the Frome Independent Market – with incredible food, live music and a whole car park full of vintage wares, it’s an experience not be missed!

Under 20 minutes from Wanstrow, you’ll find both Stourhead, where you can explore the beautiful gardens and stroll around the lake – stunning in any month of the year - and the famous Longleat Safari Park, which is a fun-packed full day out for all the family.

From Meadhaven, you can also explore the market town of Shepton Mallet (7 miles) and its Bath and West Showground (check the line-up as events go on all year round), wander around the historic cathedral city of Wells (13 miles), soak up the view from the top of Glastonbury Tor (17 miles), wonder at the cliffs at Cheddar Gorge, or climb deep down into Wookey Hole Caves.

Or if shopping is your thing, the ever-popular Clarks Village outlet centre is just 18 miles away and the larger west country cities are under an hour by car - Bath is just 20 miles away and Bristol 25 miles.

Meadheaven offers a truly relaxing quiet rural break in a fantastic location surrounded by all that stunning Somerset has to offer.
